Chapman showed little emotion during his arraignment. Police say last week he made a stop at a gas station near his Detroit home on Canton after an argument with his girlfriend. He returned with a can full of gas and cruel intentions.

A man who did not want to be identified says he tried to stop Capman and even put the fire out using a comforter. Chapman faces several charges including torture. He's been convicted in the past for multiple armed robberies. The judge says he could face stiffer penalties under Michigan's habitual offender law.

The 40 year old woman who was attacked was rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital where doctors say she is being treated for second and third degree burns all over her body. Chapman is due back in court June 20th.
