NJ firefighter dies in 4 alarm blaze

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - A New Jersey town hit hard by Superstorm Sandy is in mourning for a volunteer firefighter who died while fighting a four-alarm fire on Sunday night.

The firefighter was seen going in and out of the commercial building as it was engulfed in flames, according to Union Beach officials, the

The Monmouth County Prosecutors Office says after the fire was put under control, he collapsed on the street and was pronounced dead shortly after.

The fire was concentrated in a building that manufactures hydraulics on Union and Central Ave. at around 7 p.m.

He has not been identified, pending an autopsy and notification of the family. 
The Newark Star-Ledger reported that a sign outside Union Hose Fire Co. # 1 said "Ultimate Sacrifice, Bob Meyer, June 8 2014."

69 percent of firefighters in the United States are volunteers, According to the National Fire Protection Association.
