PALM BAY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -It was a typical Thursday night at City Hall in Palm Bay, but it wasn't your average city council meeting.

"As a mayor, I'm honored that I can recognize a young man for something so heroic that he did," said Mayor William Capote as he addressed the standing room only crowd inside the council chambers.

The young man the mayor is referring to is 6-year-old Romeo Rodriguez.  He saved his friend Cathy from drowning in a pool during a Memorial Day weekend party.

"I yelled for help," revealed Romeo.

Thanks to his efforts, he caught the attention of the adults. Roger Fox pulled Cathy from the pool.

Nurse Jana Watts who was attending the party immediately started CPR. Palm Bay Officer Amy Revis happened to be patrolling the neighborhood and had a portable defibrillator in her squad car.

"Everything aligned perfectly to get this done," says Officer Revis. "Romeo notified everybody. If it wasn't for him being so observant, Revis added, it could have turned out 100 different ways."

The crowd turned out in a big way at City Hall to honor a pint size hero. The mayor knelt down on bended knee, a gesture he admitted fit for a knight deserving of a great honor.

"The city of Palm Bay gratefully acknowledges and recognizes Romeo Rodriguez and your efforts and actions in saving a life. From the bottom of my heart, said Mayor Capote, Thank you very much young man."
