(WJBK) - It was a family affair in Macomb County court on Monday.

The mother of Ronald Dimambro took the stand to talk about her youngest child, whom she described as a good son.

She talked about his relationship with 2-year-old Damian Sutton and a fall the toddler took off of a bar stool piled high with phone books.

It happened the day before the alleged August 21 assault, an assault prosecutors say took the young blue-eyed boy's life.

"The whole chair went with Damian in it. I reiterated some type of plea to go somewhere, either urgent care or a hospital," says the suspect's mother, Kit Dimambro.

She testified it was a hard fall onto a ceramic tile floor and that Damian wasn't himself, that he became lethargic after that spill and that he even stopped eating.

She was pressed however about why she never went to the authorities with this information but she claims she did share it, that her son and husband told police and that Ronald's attorney also knew as well as Damian's mother.

"I told his mother so that I would assume the mother would tell the doctors everything that happened, not just the bar stool incident, but when the basketball came back and hit him on the head, when he fell down the steps. When my children were injured I told the doctor everything I could possibly think of," Kit testified.

Ronald Dimambro had previously admitted to police he shook the child but his story has changed several times.

It will soon be up to the jurors to decide who and what they believe.

Dimambro faces first-degree murder and child abuse charges.

Closing arguments are expected to begin sometime on Tuesday.
