Two dead in small plane crash in Merritt Island identified

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office says a small plane crashed outside a Merritt Island home killing two people Monday night.

Investigators say the Liberty XL2 aircraft went down on Paula Avenue which is approximately three miles from teh Merritt Island Airport around 8:30 p.m.

John Brian Kish, 47, and Kenneth Allen Marks, 64, both from Merritt Island, were the occupants of the single engine plane.  Deputies said both men died in the crash.

Officials say the plane took off for a test flight as Marks was interested in purchasing the plane from Kish.  The cause of the crash is not known at this time and is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration  and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Officials say no one on the ground was injured and no homes were damaged.
