No plan yet to fix Mich. roads as summer break nears for lawmakers

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - These days you don't have to go far to find a driver in distress.

Michigan's deplorable road conditions are nothing new and driver complaints seem to fall on deaf ears.

Michigan lawmakers break for summer at the end of the week but they have yet to vote for a plan to improve the roads that are quite literally falling apart.

Two right lanes of Interstate 75 near Goddard were closed Tuesday during the afternoon rush for emergency repairs after a brutal winter withered a hole on a bridge deck measuring three feet wide.

Lawmakers say they are working on a plan to raise one billion dollars for Michigan roads, but that plan could include a fuel or sales tax increase.

Tuesday night the drivers Fox 2's Maurielle Lue spoke to said they don't mind paying a little more but they will make lawmakers pay if they don't vote before summer break.

Lawmakers could vote as early as Wednesday, which is just one day before their summer break is scheduled.
