Arts, Beats & Eats to feature hair salons

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) -- The annual Arts, Beats & Eats festival in suburban Detroit plans to use this year's event to draw attention to Royal Oak's hair salons.

The Labor Day weekend event takes place Aug. 29-Sept. 1 in downtown Royal Oak.

Details were announced Wednesday for the festival, which is officially called the 17th Annual Ford Arts, Beats & Eats presented by FirstMerit Bank.

As usual, the event will offer a mix of art, music and food. This year, organizers are introducing Hair City -- a showcase of downtown Royal Oak's salons. There are 16 hair shows planned on multiple stages and mannequin style exhibits throughout the streets.
