3-Year-Old Thanks Westampton Police Officers For Saving His Life

Posted: Updated:
WESTAMPTON, N.J. -

Police officers are often honored with ribbons and medals, but perhaps there's no greater honor than a simple thank you.

On Wednesday night, that's just what two Westampton police officers received for saving a 3-year-old boy’s life.

Fox 29's Sabina Kuriakose has the story.

"They saved my boy," said the boy's mother, Jennifer Daniels.

Braylon Daniels is only 3 years old. But he's already had one brush with danger.

Jennifer says her son started gasping for air one night last month. She called 9-1-1 and Westampton Township Police Officers Robert Austin and Matt Lloyd rushed to the rescue.

"No sooner I hung up the phone, they were in my house. It was a blessing. It was like they were there for a reason that night. I don't know how much longer he could have went without oxygen," said Jennifer.

"We administered oxygen to the child. just talked to him, talked to him about his dogs, helped him calm down," said Officer Austin.

Jennifer says the officers saved Braylon's life.

"Heroes, they're my heroes. True heroes,” Jennifer said.

They insist that's just what they're sworn to do.

"Just another day on the job," said Officer Austin.

Maybe so, still it was Braylon who told his mom he wanted to say thank you in the way only a 3-year-old can.

"He gave us two toy corvettes, a box of donuts. Not to sound cliché, and he gave us a card," said Officer Austin.

Jennifer says Braylon knows the officers saved him.

"He says it all the time the police man saved me," said Jennifer.

"We deal with a lot of EMS calls. So it was just a normal situation. The biggest thing that came into it was a lot of times you don't get appreciation, but when the mother came in with the child and dropped off all the stuff for us it kind of hits you," said Officer Austin. "Wow, people do care nowadays."

It was actually Officer Lloyd's first day on the job.

"It happened to be my first shift on the road," he said.

Braylon wants to be a police officer when he grows up. Well, now he has two very good role models.
