When one social media site goes down, people turn to another one to talk about it. At least that’s what happened early Thursday morning (U.S. time) when Facebook crashed, and Twitter exploded…with tweets about Facebook’s crash.
The hashtag “#Facebookdown” started trending around 4 a.m., when people realized refreshing their Facebook pages would not get rid of this error message:
“Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”
It is not yet clear what caused the outage, but sources say it affected their website, as well as their smartphone and tablet applications.
While some people were genuinely concerned, others made light of the situation:
“@KittyTheKitty: oh my gawd #facebookdown whatever shall we do with only a dozen other social media sites!”
“@christianseel: Productivity worldwide raises 99999% since #facebookdown”
“@PeterDoherty7: #Facebook Crash Survival Guide: talk with family member or partner over dinner, do homework, read book #facebookdown"
“@newscomauHQ: On the bright side, you are not being defriended right now. #facebookdown”
And then, after over 30 minutes, Facebook was restored.
“@cyclopsee: Okay, order has been restored, it seems. Cats. PDA. Grammar gaffes and undying love are no longer orphans FB is back! #facebookdown”
The outage has been said to be the first to ever last more than just a few minutes.
