 Elections for the office of Michigan State Senate and for the office of Michigan House of Representatives will consist of a primary election on August 5, 2014, and a general election on November 4, 2014. Polls will open on August 5th at 7:00 a.m.

The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was April 22, 2014. Heading into the election, the Republican Party controls the chamber.

Michigan is one of 14 states that uses an open primary system, in which registered voters do not have to be members of a party to vote in that party's primary.

Voter registration: To vote in the primary, voters must register by June 7, 2014. For the general election the voter registration deadline is October 6, 2014.
