DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) - Lightning sparked a brush fire near a major highway in Volusia County.  Volusia County Fire say they are assisting to put out a brush fire at LPGA Boulevard and Champions Boulevard in Daytona Beach.  This is near the I-95 area.

According to Larry Stoney, public information officer for the Daytona Beach Fire Department, the fire is approximately 45 acres with several spot-overs.

They also think the fire may have been started by a lightning strike.  Fire officials told FOX 35, at this time there aren't any homes or other structures being threatened.

Volusia County Fire, Daytona Beach Fire, Ormond Beach Fire and the Division of Forestry are all working together to try to get this fire contained.  Firefighters from Daytona Beach and Florida Fire Services will continue to monitor the fire throughout the evening and overnight hours.

People with breathing difficulties or history of asthma, etc. are asked to remain indoors over the next several days due to smoke that will linger in the area.
