Protesters want justice for dogs who died at a Gilbert boarding facility

GILBERT, Ariz. - It's been two weeks since nearly two dozen dogs died at a Gilbert boarding facility. On Friday, protesters took to the streets, calling for justice for the lives that were lost.

The protesters have one question for Maricopa County investigators, why no arrests after 22 dogs died?

At this time, nearly two weeks ago families who boarded their dogs at the Green Acres Boarding in Gilbert were told something happened to their pets. Some claim they were told their dogs ran away and then later told their dogs had died.

Cary Heath lost three dogs. "It would've been completely different if they had admitted it was a tragic accident, that mistakes were made, but to continue with the lies until this present day, it's just not right," he said.

Heath says he's angry and frustrated, that he still doesn't have any answers.

"Such tragic, no chance for closure, my entire family was devastated when they heard it," said Heath.

"Too many things don't add up, there's a lot of questions, we don't believe it was an accident," said Karen Larson.

The owners of the boarding facility told investigators that a dog chewed through a wire, knocking out power to the air conditioner in the room in which more than two dozen dogs were being kept. The dogs likely died of heat exhaustion, but investigators have yet to serve a search warrant on the home.

Protesters want to make sure the public doesn't forget about this tragedy. "We want to put pressure on Sheriff Joe to make sure justice is done," said Larson.

One family is still searching for their dog who is believe to have run away from the facility. The protesters plan to be back out at the corner of Val Vista & Queen Creek in Gilbert on Saturday.
