Mother Gives Birth To Baby In Hospital Parking Lot

Posted: Updated:

Most people wait to get into the hospital for the professionals to handle their medical needs.

However, that wasn't the case for one mom.

Fox 29's Chris O'Connell has the amazing story.

A newborn boy just couldn't wait to get here. In fact, he was not only days earlier than expected, but he was so anxious to come into the world that he couldn't even wait to get to the hospital.

The baby is only 3 days old, but you can already tell Jasir Pressley is a little impatient.

"I was having contractions. And it was just me and my daughter here, then my water broke," said Devin Hankins.

4 days before her due day, Hankins started going into labor.

Her cousin, who had 3 kids in the car, drove her to nearby Virtua Voorhees Hospital.

"As soon as I got in the parking lot. He was coming out,” said Hankins.

And coming out he was.

"By the time we were even on our way to the hospital she's like ‘oh my God.’ His head is coming. And I’m thinking you know she's just in pain. Sure enough when we got to the hospital his head was out," said cousin Myeemah Pressley.

That's right, Jasir was born in the front seat of a 2014 Dodge Avenger outside the front door to the emergency room on July 3rd.

"Nobody was coming towards me and I pushed him out on my own. No doctors. Just me and him," said Hankins.

And the birth happened in front of three little girls. Who as you can imagine had some questions.

"They were so confused. They said where the baby coming from. They didn't know if it came from the stomach they were just hysterical and crying," said Hankins.

It turns out everyone was happy and healthy. But don't ask exactly when he was born.

"But they kept asking me what time was he born? I’m like I wasn't looking at a watch. I was a little busy,” said Hankins.

Jasir's first hospital visitor was his grandfather. And you'll never guess where he was born.

"I was born in the back of a taxi cab on the way to the hospital where I work now,” said Kevin Hankins.

Talk about running in the family.

"We got a bond already me and my grandson," he said.
