Container Gardening with Succulents

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Succulents are one of the biggest trends in gardening, and it’s no big surprise. They’re super easy to grow and need very little care. They thrive in our Georgia heat, love the sunny days, and thrive with very little water. Today Melody has selected some of her favorites to show.

Annual Succulent: Echeveria

  • Typically grown in containers/pots (and moved indoors for the winter) in this zone
  • Wide range of variations in color and leaf shape.
  • Extremely drought resistant

Semi-Perennial: Aloe and Agave

  • Some of the most well-known succulents, for aloes medicinal properties and agave as the source of Tequila and a natural sweetener.
  • Like all succulents, a wide range of colors, leaf shape, and drought resistant.

Perennial: Hens and Chicks and Sedum

  • Old favorites as bedding plants and in containers
  • A wide range of colors, leaf shape, and drought resistant

Pike Nurseries also offers free classes. The next class will be held at Saturday, July 12 at 9 a.m. Join them for a free class to learn about various types of cacti and succulents and how to care for them.
