Possible listeria contamination from Calif. fruit distributor

FRESH FRUIT RECALL: Possible listeria risk in fruit sold at Trader Joe's, Costco

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Fresh fruit sold at Trader Joes’s, Costco and other retailers via a California-based distributor is being recalled nationwide due to possible listeria contamination.

Peaches, nectarines, plums and pluots are all being investigated after internal testing discovered traces of listeria that could be life-threatening to patients with weakened immune systems.

Wawona Packing Company issued the voluntary recall and pictured items from various retailers in this news release: [PDF]

The affected fresh fruit was packed between June 1 and July 12, the company said. The company is issuing the nationwide recall because they do not know the locations of the companies that purchased the products from direct Wawona customers, WITI-TV reported.
