    Jurors have reached a verdict in the trial of a Detroit-area man who argued self-defense in the fatal shooting of Renisha McBride, an unarmed woman on his porch.
    Jurors have reached a verdict in the trial of a Detroit-area man who argued self-defense in the fatal shooting of Renisha McBride, an unarmed woman on his porch.
 After about two days of deliberations, a jury found Theodore Wafer guilty in the death of Renisha McBride.

Wafer was found guilty second-degree murder, manslaughter and felony firearms in the death of Renisha McBride,
Thursday in Wayne County Circuit Court

Renisha's mother Monica McBride said. "I kept the faith and I stayed positive. So did Renisha's father who just kept telling me, it's going to happen."

Sister Jasmine McBride I just wish he would have called the police, "I would rather her be behind bars than a place where I will never see her again.

The 55-year-old Dearborn Heights man has admitted to shooting and killing 19 year-old McBride in November of last year. Wafer says he pulled the trigger in self-defense after the she pounded on his door.

McBride was drunk and had crashed her car hours earlier about a half-mile away.

The defense attorney had asked jurors to imagine themselves in Wafer's situation, awakened in the middle of the night. But prosecutors argued that is no reason to shoot someone and that Wafer had other options, including a call to police.

"Her life mattered," Monica McBride said. "We showed that today."
 
Family members say their devastated. Renisha family prays he gets maximum sentence.

Renisha McBride's mother Bernita Spinks said, "You can rest now baby, justice is served."

Wafer's attorney Cheryl Carpenter had no comment, but others from the defense team told Fox 2 they are devastated.

Wafer will be sentenced Aug. 25.
