Firefighters Make Rescues At Burning Montco Apartment Building

Posted: Updated:

An apartment fire in Montgomery County forced people from their homes overnight.

A resident of another building sent us video of the flames of the fire on Lincoln Drive in the Ambler section of Upper Dublin Township. She didn't hear any alarms but did hear firefighters screaming to each other as they arrived at the scene.

At least five families are out of their homes. One woman was taken to the hospital but was not reported to be seriously hurt.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley reported that suburban volunteer firefighters jumped out of bed, into their uniforms and got over to the scene quickly. They kept the apartment complex fire from spreading beyond a single building and kept everyone from being seriously hurt, saving property and saving at least a dozen lives.

One woman who had appeared on a second-floor balcony before going back inside was rescued by firefighters.

Then, people sleeping in another apartment on the second floor told us they never heard any alarms. The only reason they woke up was the sound of firefighters kick nothing their doors and grabbing them out of bed.

Residents were told it could be two days before they're allowed to go back in to retrieve belongings.

One occupant pointed out a missing wall and said it's right next to where his bed was.

"I'm thankful all of these volunteer fire department got out here," he said. "It could have been catastrophic – more catastrophic then it already is. We kind of owe our lives to these people."
