Moment Of Silence Vigil Held At LOVE Park For Victims Of Police Brutality

PHILADELPHIA -

Violent protests continue in Ferguson after a police officer shot and killed an unarmed teen. Officers used tear gas to disperse the crowd causing even more outrage. From New York, to Baltimore, and here in Philadelphia people are taking a stand against violence.

"It's sad. It's real sad," said Frank Bobbitt. He's from St. Louis, but is in Philadelphia for a Black Caucus Teamsters Union Conference. Still, his thoughts are with his hometown. He's saddened by the violence after 18-year old Michael Brown was killed.

"They just had their hands up and they were throwing tear gas at them anyway. That's not good," said Bobbitt who joined of people in Love Park Thursday evening for this moment of silence vigil.

"This really isn't' about any agenda it's not a protest or rally it's a vigil and a moment for us to get together to have a quiet moment to grieve together," said

Leslie MacFayden, one of the organizers of the vigil. The crowd wore red ribbons around their arms and held signs bearing the names and faces of others killed by police around the country.

Amanda Bergson-Shilcock is sending out a message of her own.

"That we're watching. People of every background care about each other and we want better from our police," said Bergson-Shilcock.

While holding candles the crowd chanted the names of others whose lives were taken. Many raised their hands in the air as witnesses in Ferguson say Michael Brown was doing when he was shot.

"People who could be my brother, my cousin or my friends or even me are getting killed by police. It brings me deep sadness," said Adriana Akin Tobi.

Organizers say more than 80 vigils like the one here tonight were held all over the country.
