Officials warn of string of robberies in Midtown Atlanta

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA - Officials have a warning for folks coming to or from bars and nightclubs near Piedmont Park and the Midtown-Ponce area. Robbers have been targeting pedestrians, or people getting into their cars.

The Midtown Ponce Security Alliance reports in its monthly crime incidents report, published August 10th on its website that a group of three robbers has been responsible for several attacks.

The MPSA reports the following: "At 9th Street and Argonne Avenue on July 4, around midnight, three men pulled up to a victim, robbed him at gunpoint, and drove off with his wallet and iPhone."

Then on July 10th at 3 a.m., three suspects pulled up to a person outside their car on 931 Monroe Avenue, and stole the victim's cell phone.

On July 14th, at 10th and Argonne Avenue at 1 a.m., a trio of robbers tried to rob a couple at gunpoint. But quickly left in their getaway vehicle without any possessions.

Various reports from the MPSA show victims having coming to or from the local bar areas or shops, and encountering robbers.

Atlanta Police spoke to FOX 5 earlier this week about pedestrian safety, in light of various attacks on Freedom Trail and Inman Park. Police advise pedestrians to always be alert and aware of their surroundings.
