HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

UPDATE: Highland Park police now say the teenage girl who found and reported the baby is the baby's mother.  The newborn boy was found near a dumpster Saturday morning. The baby is in good condition and is being cared for at Children's Hospital in Detroit. It's not clear whether the teen will face charges.

The baby was found around 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Grand and Hamilton.

"I took the shortcut to the store and I heard a baby crying," the teenager involved told Fox 2. "I was scared at first."

Michigan's Safe Haven Law allows a person to leave a baby, up to 3 days old, with a staff member at any hospital, police station, fire station, or on-duty emergency service provider. Police are still investigating.
