WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - Police are searching for three masked gunmen they say are responsible for shooting three family members in Warren during an attempted robbery.

Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green tells Fox 2 a husband, wife and their 17-year-old son were shot at about 11 p.m. Sunday. He says two other teens were at the home but were not injured.

Green says three males wearing hoods and armed with weapons came to the home on Toepfer Road near Peters Avenue, which is near Van Dyke Avenue between Eight and Nine Mile roads.

Green says the father, 57, was shot trying to protect the family. He grabbed his unloaded gun and started beating the gunmen.

They then started shooting, hitting the man, his 17-year-old son and his 53-year-old mom. She was wounded in the stomach, and is in critical condition on a ventilator.

The father and son are in stable condition.

A source with knowledge of the incident says the family recently came into a large amount of money, about $250,000.
