ATLANTA, Ga. -

More than $200,000 in school electronic equipment has been stolen from an Atlanta middle school.

The Atlanta Police Department says four thieves broke open a locked basement door at Brown Middle School to get inside. Investigators say the suspects triggered an alarm, but there was an unexplained delay in response.

Police say they were called out to the school around 5:25 a.m. on Sunday, August 17 to a possible vandalism. About 75 laptops and other electronic gear were stolen.

Police found several empty and partially empty computer carts, and computers lying outside on the Beecher Street side of the school building.

According to police, school surveillance video shows four suspects scurrying through the hallways. Police say they are searching for four black males who appear to be in their early to mid-twenties.

Brown Middle School does have a security guard, and a guard was working when the incident occurred.

“All of our equipment is securely locked. There are layers of security,” said Marquenta Sands with Atlanta Public Schools.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
