Thunderstorms moving through northern suburbs

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Strong thunderstorms moving through the northern suburbs Tuesday morning could bring lightning, heavy downpours and hail, the National Weather Service warns.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Cook, Grundy, Kendall, Lake and Will counties, according to the weather service. Boaters on Lake Michigan from Wilmette Harbor to Northerly Island are advised to seek shelter.

A strong thunderstorm near Morton Grove is moving east at 45 mph as of 10:45 a.m., according to the weather service.

Half-inch hail, winds up to 50 mph, lightning, and heavy downpours are all expected to affect the northern suburbs including Skokie, Winnetka and Glenview, among others, according to the weather service.

The active weather is expected to continue through the rest of the week with periodic thunderstorms, according to the waether service.
