TAYLOR, Mich. (WJBK) - A lighting strike from strong storms sparked a fire at Taylor Woods Apartments Tuesday.

"I thought the worst, and hoped for the best," said one witness. "But it didn't turn out well."

Cell phone videos by Fox 2 viewers recorded the flames that tore through the roof of an apartment complex on Mt. Vernon Street  in Taylor.

Tenants walked out or returned home to witness the fire, which the Taylor Fire Department got under control in 45 minutes.

"Thankfully, there were no civilian injuries and no fire fighters were iinjured" said Fire Chief Dan Reynolds.

Taylor firefighters not only were tasked with tackling this fire, but lighting struck another home at about the same time, two miles away.

"Command was spread thin," Reynolds said. "The firefighters were spread thin but through some diligence and teamwork we got it done."
