Detroit police believe three shootings gang-related

DETROIT (WJBK) - Two men from across the street had just walked up and started talking to the girls when police say a burgundy late 90s Saturn pulled up. A man got out of the passenger with an AK-47 and started shooting.

"She wasn't out here five minutes before I heard the shots ring out," said Andrea Garland's best friend's mother. "Pop, pop, pop all at one time  I was trying to help her, I couldn't do anything to save her, she was gone."

It wasn't long before that burgundy car believed to be used in the shooting was found burned up and still smoldering on a nearby street.

This is just one of three shootings that happened within 12 hours and within two miles of each other. A local rapper and another woman were gunned down outside Eastland Center Mall earlier that same afternoon.

A few hours after Garland was killed on Edmore Street, a gunman opened fire two blocks away at a house on east State Fair, wounding another young man.

In total one person killed, seven people were injured and police believe there is a connection.
