The emergency manager of Detroit Public Schools, Jack Martin, greeted some at the Mark Twain School of Scholar students as they arrived at school Tuesday morning.

Detroit has a $127 million deficit. Instead of giving employees a 10 percent pay cut, the emergency manager hopes to eliminate the debt by selling real estate, possible layoffs and extending the time in which the district has to get out of the red.

They are working on the plan right now and hope to submit it to the state in the next two months.
